One day the peacock whined to Juno, “No one likes my song, whereas the nightingale’s, so sweet and clear, is honored as the score to springtime.”
Juno answered angrily, “Ungrateful, plaintive bird! What cause have you to envy others? you whose rainbow tail, of colors rich as silk, astounds all eyes like the shop window of a jeweler? Can another please as much? Some birds are large, some strong; the falcon’s light, the eagle brave; the raven’s good at omens. None but you complain! So cease your grumbling, or I’ll pluck the beauty that distinguishes you most.”
No creature can of every virtue boast.
